Jan. 12:  Pedestrian / bike access

We obtained information about the site selection process through a Freedom Of Information request.  We will be looking at the details and releasing our findings here and in our Facebook group.

We think it's great that sidewalks and bike lanes are planned for the roads leading to the new hospital.  The problem is that the site is so far from the core, hardly anyone, least of all a patient, is likely to avail themselves of this infrastructure.

Wouldn't it be better to spend our cycling infrastructure resources on bike lanes that are closer to where more people live?

For more reading on the subject, please take a look at the compelling article written by Stephen Kapusta, a former City of Windsor planner (Transit Windsor, Public Works – Transportation Planning and ultimately the Planning Policy section), who concludes that:

"I am deeply disappointed that a decision such as this has been made that is in such conflict with the guidance of Windsor’s Official Plan, and further is so contrary to accepted land use and transportation planning principles for an institution of this scale."
