Letter to Alzheimer Society of Windsor Essex County, written by Michelle Oncea
I am writing to convey my dismay over your letter to Minister Hoskins supporting the location of the proposed mega hospital. Are you aware of the facts or has Mr. Dave Cooke written this letter for your signature? It sounds like his political propaganda as well as a conflict of interest.
Are you aware that the two campuses of WRH will be torn down leaving us with only one acute care hospital? The location on County Rd 42 is not accessible to people who don't drive, this would include those with dimentia! These are the people you should be concerned with. Improved health care and medical services can be achieved without putting it out of the reach of our most vulnerable citizens.
How is one hospital, one Emergency Department a benefit to anyone? The proposal for the Ouellette campus is an out patient mental health facility, no beds, no overnight stays, so how do these people get to the one and only hospital beyond the airport after hours, or do they die in the streets. The urgent care centre is nothing more than a walk in clinic, with limited hours and will not accept patients by EMS, how is that an improvement to health care? How is this of any benefit to Alzheimer's and dimentia patients?
How can you speak for the residents when you say we are steadfast in our support of this proposal? You don't speak for me and clearly you have not spoken with actual people in the community otherwise you would hear the discontent with the idea of the new hospital plan. You would know the fear of hospital employees who will only whisper that they don't like it and don't agree because they've been threatened that they will lose their jobs if they say it out loud. Don't be fooled by their silence, they've been muzzled.
If you were genuinely concerned about bringing our health care into the 21st century you would be against the urban sprawl and environmental ramifications this location will cause. 21st century urban planning creates urban density and revitalization not 1950's sub divisions.
Yours truly,
Michelle Oncea
