Letter to Alzheimer Society of Windsor Essex County, written by Lori Hill
Dear Mr. Soulliere and Board of Directors of ASWE:
I was shocked to see this letter that was sent to Minister Hoskins speaking on behalf of the community and stating that “we are united and willing to do whatever it takes” to have the hospital moved to the phase 2 development stage. Perhaps as a board it would serve you well to understand your limitations in representation. You certainly cannot speak for my beliefs and nor should you be telling Dr. Hoskins that you do.
As a resident of this city I am very excited about the prospect of this much needed healthcare investment however, there are many aspects of this plan that I feel are not going to serve this community well. There are also many residents in the city showing their concern with participation in a lawn sign campaign http://windsormegahospital.weebly.com/uploads/1/4/2/3/14238181/lawn-signs-10-18_1_orig.jpg) that would like to see this plan reviewed because they have concerns and questions that have gone unanswered. The location of the Acute Care Facility on County Road 42 presents extreme accessibility issues and contravenes municipal and provincial planning policy and policy set forth in the Climate Change Action Plan all of which has been washed over. I understand that your organization is very eager to see this investment come to fruition but take a few moments to truly look at the problematic accessibility issues for the greatest number of people as well as the negative economic and environmental implications that this location presents.
Since you have made the effort to speak for “a united community willing to do what it takes” I think you owe this community a much more detailed analysis of how you came up with this opinion of such overwhelming support. I will look forward to hearing back from you on this matter.
Sincerely
Lori Hill
On behalf of Mrs. Sally Bennett Olczak, Chief Executive Officer of the Alzheimer Society Windsor – Essex County on behalf of the Board of Directors;
Dear Ms. Lori Hill,
Thank you for your letter. We believe that a new state-of-the-art acute care hospital is precisely what our community needs. We serve the whole of Windsor and Essex County and this location will provide improved health care throughout our region. In turn, this will allow for expanded and integrated health care at the other two sites in the city. We fully support Windsor Regional Hospital leadership and their plans.
Thank you,

Dear Mr. Soulliere and Board of Directors of ASWE
I appreciate your response but feel you have inadequately accounted for your statement addressed to Minister Hoskins as representatives of the Alzheimer’s Society that “we are a united community willing to do what it takes”. This is an extremely bold statement to speak for people outside of your organization in such a broad sense especially given the link that was attached showing a very large number of people asking for a Rethink of the Hospital Systems Plan.
You are certainly entitled to your opinion and choice to support this plan. I also look forward to an investment in healthcare in this city and region but I feel the plan is far from ideal as it is currently proposed.
I would appreciate a public response from your organization given that you have taken it upon yourselves to misrepresent this situation here in Windsor to our provincial government. You have overstepped your professional boundaries in representation and it is not being taken lightly.
Sincerely,
Lori Hill
